Description of Connectors on the Control Panel Board¶

Power Supply Capacity on the Panel¶
The power supply on the panel provides power to external devices via the AUX outputs, to control panel modules installed on the bus, and to charge the battery. The total current drawn by these devices must not exceed the power supply’s capacity. If devices with higher current consumption are used, they must be powered by an additional buffer power supply, and its status (power outage and low battery) must be monitored via inputs on the panel or INA inputs.INB and INC in the input expander module, dedicated to monitoring buffer power supplies.

Bus Connection Specifications¶
All four bus terminals on the control panel (RED, BLK, YEL, GRN) must be connected to their corresponding bus terminals on the expansion modules and keypads. The bus must be routed in a linear topology (without branches).
Do not use shielded cables, as they introduce additional capacitance into the bus, which may cause the system to malfunction.
Minimum cross-sectional area of power wires depending on bus length:

The maximum length of the bus is 305 m.
If the bus is routed using UTP cable, use a single pair of wires from the twisted-pair cable to transmit YEL and GRN signals.
Adding and Addressing Bus Devices¶
Each device connected to the system bus must be assigned a unique address using a DIP switch. System keypads and expander modules have separate, independent addressing. This means that, for example, Keypad 1 and Expander 1 can have the same address set via the DIP switch without causing any conflict. Devices of the same type must be assigned different addresses.
Warning
The TouchBus 7" keypad has address 8 set by default, so you must program the partition assignment and other keypad functions for this address. To change the address of the tablet keypad, turn off its power and turn it back on. During the restart, the PulsON logo will appear. Tap the logo to open a window where you can change the address. After changing the address, rescan the bus.

Bus Scanning¶
To scan the bus after connecting all devices, you can use one of three methods:
1. From the keypad¶
- Enter installer programming mode
- Select the "Bus Scan" option
- Select "Start Scan"
- Once complete, check the list of detected modules in the "Module List" tab
2. Using a button on the control panel¶
- With the control panel powered on, press and hold the signal strength measurement button
- Wait until the two blue LEDs light up
- Release the button
- The LEDs will begin to flash—the number of flashes indicates the number of scanned modules
3. In the Alarm Configuration 2 program¶
- Connect to the control panel
- Click "Scan Bus" in the top menu
- When finished, check the list of modules in the Diagnostics/Modules tab
Verifying the Software Version¶
After scanning, check the update dates in the "Version" column:
- All active modules should have similar dates
- If there are version differences:
- Select the "Update" option from the Settings menu on the keypad
- Update the control panel using the Supervisor tool
- Or contact PulsON support
Important Notes¶
- The number of scanned modules must match the number of installed modules
- If there are discrepancies:
- Check the addresses set in the modules
- Verify that the bus wires are connected correctly
- Rescan the bus
Warning
Setting the same address on similar devices (for example, on two keypads) or failing to scan the bus after changing the addresses of devices on the bus will result in these devices malfunctioning (failure to accept a valid code, failure to perform functions, or failure to display the system status correctly). After changing the addresses of previously added modules, restart the system and rescan the bus.
Installation of System Keypads¶
System keypads are designed for surface mounting. Secure the detachable keypad base using the screws provided by the manufacturer. Using other screws may damage the keypad.
To route the surface-mounted keypad cable through the mounting rail, break out the perforated section on the side or bottom panel of the keypad housing.
Slide the LCD/C keypad onto the mounted base from above.
Hook the LCD/S keypad onto the lower or upper tabs on the base and press it into the base’s tabs on the other side.
Hook the TouchBus 7" keypad onto the top hooks of the base and press it into the bottom hooks.
Screw at least one locking screw into the holes on the side walls of the keypad base (does not apply to the tablet keypad).
The keypad features a cleaning lock function that locks all buttons on the keypad for 20 seconds. During this time, you can perform maintenance on the touchscreen surface without the risk of triggering unwanted events or alarms.
To activate the keypad’s cleaning lock, simultaneously press and hold the OK/MENU and BACK buttons for 2 seconds
Warning
The LCD/S touchscreen keypad and the LCD/C button keypad have two supervision zone inputs. The TouchBus 7" tablet keypad does not have supervision zone inputs.
Installation of the wired input and output expander.¶
The I/O expander allows you to expand the PulsON Alarm 4G alarm system by an additional 8 monitoring zones and 2 control outputs. The system can accommodate up to 7 EXP8/2 expanders. This does not preclude connecting a wireless device expander.

The expander should be placed in a tamper-proof enclosure and connected to the control panel via a 4-wire bus. Use the switch to set the module’s address according to the table provided in the chapter “Adding and Addressing Bus Devices.” The zone numbers connected to the expanders will correspond to the zone range for a given module address. For the purposes of installing and using the alarm system, it is recommended to set the module addresses sequentially, starting with expander address 1. Expander addresses must not be duplicated.
After connecting and addressing all control panel modules, scan the bus.
Warning
Expander addresses must be set only when the power is off.
After powering on the expanders, configure the behavior of the zones and outputs according to their numbering corresponding to the module addresses. Using the keypad or the Alarm Configuration 2 software—in the Zones or Outputs tab, respectively—set the action type, assign them to a partition, and enable any other necessary functions for the configured zones and outputs.
If the expander is to monitor the operation of an auxiliary power supply, enable the INA, INB, and INC technical inputs for the specific module in the Expanders tab by selecting the External Power Supply option. The normal state of the input is shorted to ground.
The contents of the Zones and Outputs tabs are described later in this manual. The side menu of the configuration program corresponds to the menu layout in Installer Programming mode, which is accessible to the installer via the keypad.
Installation of Wireless Device Expanders¶
The PulsON Alarm 4G system is a wired system, but by using the EXP-RF (Ajax) or EXP-RF (PowerG) wireless device expander module, you can build a hybrid (mixed) system based also on or exclusively on wireless devices.
EXP-RF (AJAX) Expander¶
The EXP-RF (A) expander works with two-way wireless devices from AJAX:

Up to 80 wireless devices (detectors, remote controls) can be assigned to a system with an EXP–RF module. However, the PulsON system can have a maximum of 80 zones (regardless of whether they are wired or wireless devices), so when designing a hybrid (mixed) system, this number must not be exceeded for all detectors or devices in the system.
AJAX wireless devices have a range of at least 1,200 meters in open space, under favorable radio conditions. In densely built-up areas with a lot of concrete, wiring, and radio interference, the range may decrease significantly. When planning the installation of AJAX wireless devices, we recommend using https://ajax.systems/pl/tools/radio-communication-range-calculator/.
The actual signal strength and interference level at the wireless detector’s installation site can be viewed in the Alarm Configuration 2 program, under the Diagnostics/Zones tab.

Starting the EXP-RF (AJAX) Module¶
The system can have only one wireless device expander. Therefore, the module in its tamper-proof housing should be placed in a central location within the protected premises where the best signal from all wireless devices in use is expected. Connect the expander to the control panel via a 4-wire bus.
Before programming the wireless device module, it must be reset. To do this, turn off the module’s power, set all DIP-switch sliders to the ON position, and then turn the power back on. A blue LED in the corner of the module will light up and turn off after 2 seconds. Then, set all DIP switches to the OFF position. After that, turn off the module’s power again and turn it back on. Next, scan the system bus along with the other modules and keypads.
Leave all address switches on this module in the OFF position. The expander is now ready to add wireless devices.
If the RF expander is installed without a dedicated enclosure (e.g., inside the control panel enclosure), disable the module’s tamper switch in the control panel configuration under the System/General tab by unchecking the “RF Module Tamper Active” option.
Adding Wireless Devices¶
After starting up the expander, add wireless devices to it and program their operation. Devices should be added in the appropriate tabs of the configuration program: detectors in the Zones tab, keypads in the Keypads/Settings tab, and remote controls in the Users tab.
Adding Wireless Detectors
In installer programming mode (from a keypad or from a computer using the Alarm Configuration 2 program), go to the Zones tab and select any unused zone to which you want to assign a wireless detector. For practical reasons, it is advisable to program the zones in the system one by one.
After selecting the zone to which you want to assign a wireless detector, press the Scan key; when programming the system from the keypad, select the Scan RF Zones function. At this point, turn on the power to the wireless device. The device will be added to the system, as confirmed by the display of its serial number.
To remove a device, press the Delete key; on the keypad, select the Delete RF Zones function. A message will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. After confirmation, the wireless device is removed from the system.
After installing the wireless devices, you can use the Alarm Configuration 2 program to check the signal strength from the device, the interference level at the detector’s installation location, and the battery status.
The next step is to program the wireless detector’s operation in the same way as for wired detectors. From the keypad or in the Alarm Configuration 2 program (Zones tab), set the action type, assign the detector to a partition, and enable any other necessary functions. In the Parameterization Type settings, you can leave the zone parameterization method as desired—for wireless detectors, this parameter is irrelevant.
Adding Remote Controls
Remote controls have user status, so add them in the Users tab. After selecting the Scan function in the configuration program or via the installer menu on the keypad, press and hold the full arming and panic buttons (top left and bottom right) on the remote control until the green LED on the remote lights up and the control panel confirms that the new remote has been added.

The range of PowerG wireless devices depends largely on building density, the amount of concrete, metal structures, electrical installations, and radio interference along the radio signal transmission path. Taking all these conditions into account, the actual range of the devices may be drastically reduced compared to the ranges declared by the detector manufacturers.

Commissioning the EXP-RF (PowerG) Module¶
The system can have only one wireless device expander. Therefore, the module—which is housed in a tamper-proof enclosure—should be placed in a central location within the protected premises where the best signal from all wireless devices in use is expected. Connect the expander to the control panel via a 4-wire bus.
Before programming the wireless device module, reset it. To do this, turn off the module’s power, place a jumper on the red contacts, and turn the power back on. The yellow, green, and red LEDs on the module will begin to flash. When they have flashed 5 times, remove the jumper. Next, scan the system bus along with the other modules and keypads.
If the RF expander is installed without a dedicated enclosure (e.g., inside the control panel enclosure), you must disable the module’s tamper switch in the control panel configuration, under the System/General tab, by turning off the “RF Module Tamper Active” option.
Adding Wireless Devices¶
After commissioning the expander, add wireless devices to it and program their operating mode. Devices should be added in the appropriate tabs of the configuration program: detectors in the Zones tab, keypads in the Keypads/Settings tab, and remote controls in the Users tab.
Adding Wireless Detectors
In installer programming mode (from a keypad or from a computer using the Alarm Configuration2 program), go to the Zones tab and select any unused zone to which you want to assign a wireless detector. For practical reasons, it is advisable to program the zones in the system one by one.
After selecting the zone to which you want to assign the wireless detector, press the Scan key; when programming the system via the keypad, select the Scan RF Zones function.
At this point, press the ENROLL button on the wireless device until, after a few seconds, the orange LED on the detector lights up. During this time, the blue LED on the RF expander will flash. Release the button and, in the software or on the keypad, confirm the message indicating that the detector has been found.
The device will be added to the system, as confirmed by the display of its serial number (in addition, the red LED on PIR detectors will flash). When the blue LED on the expander remains lit, this confirms that the detector has been accepted by the system and is ready for operation. This process may take about 2 minutes for PIR detectors; for magnetic contacts, it happens much faster.
For 15 minutes after being added, the detector is in walk test mode. When motion is detected, the red LED on the motion detector turns on, along with a green LED that indicates the detector’s range: 3 flashes – good range, 2 flashes – average range, 1 flash – poor range.
If the battery is low, a message will appear in the event log and an SMS will be sent if the control panel has a SIM card installed and this is configured in the Communication/SMS Notifications tab.
To remove a device, press the Delete key; on the keypad, select the Delete RF Zones function. A message will appear asking you to confirm the removal. After confirmation, the wireless device will be removed from the system and from the RF module.
After installing the wireless devices, in the Alarm Configuration 2 program, under the Diagnostics tab, you can check the signal strength from the device (high, medium, low, no communication) and the status of its battery.
The next step is to configure the wireless detector’s operation in the same way as for wired detectors. Using the keypad or in the Alarm Configuration 2 program, under the Zones tab, set the action type, assign it to a partition, and enable any other necessary functions. In the Parameterization Type settings, you can leave the zone parameterization method as desired—for wireless detectors, this parameter is irrelevant
Adding Remote Controls
Remote controls have user status, so they are added in the Users tab. After selecting the Scan function in the configuration program (or Add RF Remote on the keypad), press and hold the star button on the remote control until the yellow LED on the remote lights up. Release the button. It takes a few more seconds for the remote control to be added to the system. Once the remote control has been successfully added, a confirmation message will appear, and the RF remote control’s serial number will be displayed.
Adding RFID Key Fobs
RFID key fobs have user status, so they are added in the Users tab. After selecting the Scan function in the configuration program (or Add RFID Tag in the keypad menu), press the Arm button on the wireless keypad and hold the key fob against the upper-left corner of the keypad. The keypad will confirm the addition of the key fob with a beep and by lighting up the green LED. Once the key fob has been successfully added, a confirmation message will appear and the RFID key fob (tag) ID will be displayed.
Adding Keypads
Go to the Keypads/Settings tab. After selecting the keypad’s address, choose the Scan function for that address in the configuration program or on the PulsON keypad in the installer menu. On the wireless keypad being added to the system, press and hold the star button until the orange LED on the keypad lights up. Once the keypad has been added, its number will be displayed in the configuration program.
Adding Sirens
To add a wireless siren to the system, go to the Outputs tab in the configuration program or on the keypad. Then select one of the available outputs (1 through 19) to which you want to assign the siren. After selecting the output, run the Scan function.
At this point, follow the instructions included with the wireless siren—this usually involves putting the siren into pairing mode by holding down the appropriate button on the device. Once the device is successfully paired, the system will confirm that the siren has been added to the selected output.
Warning
After a system restart, wireless devices synchronize with the receiver within a maximum of 10 minutes. After synchronization, all PowerG wireless motion detectors (excluding magnetic contacts) remain active until the partition in which they are located is armed for the first time. During this time, any motion detected by a motion detector is immediately transmitted to the panel (as during a Walk Test). Only after the partition is armed do the detectors switch to standard operating mode, in accordance with the system settings.
Adding Signal Repeaters
After turning on the repeater’s power, go to the Repeaters tab and click the Scan button for the selected repeater number. At the same time, press and hold the Enroll button on the repeater until the LED lights up and the repeater’s number appears in the configuration program.
ZigBee Home Automation Expander¶
PulsON EXP-ZB is an IoT expansion module that enables the integration of the Pulson Alarm system with smart home actuators operating on the ZigBee 3.0 standard. Thanks to this module, the panel gains home automation capabilities, allowing the user to conveniently control smart home devices—both manually and automatically, in response to system events (e.g., arming, alarm, schedule).

The ZigBee expander module must be connected to the system bus and the bus must be scanned. It is responsible for communication between the PulsON system and home automation actuators (end devices):
- PA-ZB-SOCKET: ZigBee 3.0 smart outlet
- PA-ZB-RELAY01: ZigBee 3.0 universal potential-free relay
- PA-ZB-SWITCH01: ZigBee 3.0 miniature flush-mount relay
We recommend these devices, available from BCS, when setting up a home automation system based on the PulsON control panel. The ZigBee protocol is a universal data transmission protocol, so ZigBee modules from other suppliers can be used; however, due to manufacturer-specific modifications, we cannot guarantee their proper operation.
The modules operate in a star topology and do not use mesh networking. The range is up to 100 meters, depending on the thickness and material of structural obstacles.
The PulsON system supports the installation of a single ZigBee device expander module; therefore, its location within the facility should be carefully considered to ensure a good connection with all actuator modules.
During system programming, the modules are assigned to the system’s outputs; thus, the system can accommodate up to 19 modules (assuming that one output is typically used by a siren, so in practice, 18 ZigBee modules can be connected). To use outputs 6 through 19, there is no need to use EXP 8/2 input/output expanders—the ZigBee modules will be controlled virtually via the ZigBee expander.
To add a ZigBee device to a system output, select the Outputs tab in the configuration program and right-click on the Scan column. From the menu that appears, select Wireless ZB Outputs. When programming via the keypad, all ZigBee-related functions are displayed as subsequent functions of the selected output.

In the window that appears:
• First, select Rebuild Network to clear any existing ZigBee network settings (if present)
• Next, select the “Allow Joining” option—a countdown will begin
• During this time, activate the ZigBee device. The exact method depends on the device type; for example, for a Smart Plug, press and hold the orange button until the LED starts flashing

After activating the ZigBee device:
• Click Refresh.
• The ZigBee device should appear in the list.
• You can then assign it to the desired output number
Adding devices in this manner helps verify whether—if an issue occurs during this process—the problem is related to the ZigBee network configuration or to the device pairing process.

Detected Troubles¶
The system continuously monitors system parameters. If a trouble is detected, a trouble message is displayed on the keypad, and the corresponding trouble code is sent to the alarm monitoring station.

To clear the troubles indicated by the system, log in to the keypad using the user or installer code, press the OK key to enter the Menu, select the Trouble Overview screen, and clear the troubles by holding down the OK key for a few seconds. The troubles will be cleared, but they will reappear if the cause has not been resolved.
Warning
If there is a monitoring station trouble, the system will retry establishing a connection every 20 minutes. By using the trouble reset option (User Menu/Fault Overview/Reset Troubles—OK button), you can reset the connection trouble, and the control panel will then attempt to establish a connection with the monitoring station immediately.
Measuring GSM and Wi-Fi Signal Strength¶

The panel features a section for measuring Wi-Fi and GSM signal strength. To measure signal strength, use the switch located in the “signal strength” field above the control panel’s backup battery to select the signal you want to measure—Wi-Fi or GSM. When an option is selected, a blue LED will light up. The signal strength will be displayed on the LEDs next to the icon symbolizing range $\bullet$, according to the table below. |

In addition to the signal strength indication via the LED on the control panel, when the switch on the panel is pressed, the signal strength and service availability are displayed on the control panel keypads:
– Signal strength in percent. A signal above 50% ensures a good connection to the cellular network. A value of 0% and the message “no service” or “No Internet” prevents the control panel from connecting to the GSM network.
– [Connection type] LTE, GPRS, or No service
– Bandwidth: High, Medium, Low, Poor, No Internet.
Each time you remove the SIM card from the slot, it is recommended to restart the control panel (briefly turn off both the AC power and the battery power).
Warning
The control panel’s Wi-Fi module supports only the 2.4GHz frequency. The Wi-Fi module requires a separate antenna with a U.FL IPX connector. The Wi-Fi antenna is independent of the antenna for the GPRS module. The Wi-Fi antenna is not included with the control panel.
Resetting the Control Panel to Factory Settings¶
The control panel can be reset to factory settings using the “Default” jumper located on the panel. To restore factory settings, follow the instructions below.
Procedure for resetting the control panel to factory settings:
- Disconnect the AC power and the battery from the panel’s main board.
- Place the “Default” jumper on the designated pins marked on the control panel’s panel.
- Reconnect the AC power to the control panel:
- The LEDs located next to the USB port will light up briefly and then turn off.
- After about 4 seconds, all LEDs on the panel will begin to flash simultaneously in a cyclical pattern.
- Remove the “Default” jumper from the pins on the panel.
- The control panel is restored to factory settings and is ready for further configuration.
Warning
If the “Factory reset deletes users” option is enabled in the panel, all system users will be permanently deleted when performing the procedure above. If the “Factory reset lock” option is enabled, resetting the panel using the jumper on the board will not be possible.
Restoring the Default Installer and Master User Passwords¶
To restore the default passwords for the installer and master user, turn off the control panel’s power, press and hold the switch for measuring GSM and Wi-Fi signal strength, turn on the AC power, and wait until all the signal strength indicator LEDs light up. Then release the switch—the default passwords for the installer and the main user have been restored. The passwords for other users remain unchanged.
